About The Artist

Kristen Cancino was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. From an early age, Kristen has always been interested in art and its various forms. Kristen's love for photography first began while working with darkroom processes. The hands on approach allowed her to learn and grow as an artist as well as create photographs she was proud of. After a few years at Tarrant County College, Kristen soon obtained her Associate of Arts degree. In order to further purse her passion of photography, Kristen then decided to transfer to the University of North Texas. As an artist, Kristen enjoys utilizing a range of practices throughout her work. In the past she has worked with landscapes, portraits, and still life's, mainly focusing on the theme of nostalgia. Most recently, she has begun working with more experimental methods when making photos. Her latest work explores memory loss within her family; more specifically how memories can alter over time. Within this series, Kristen manipulated her own photographs through that of a broken television as well as through Photoshop to create her own digital collages. Kristen plans to graduate from UNT in the spring of 22' with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She is currently majoring in photography with a minor in marketing. Kristen resides in the DFW area and is working as a freelance photographer outside of school and work.
